After years of apprenticeship at various international schools and sporting providers, Alex wanted to do it differently. He saw that those who did not exhibit a competitive streak or those that weren't particularly interested in sports were often side-lined early on.
He wanted to enable children to be given time to explore various sports in a fun and supportive environment. And most importantly develop a long-lasting passion for sports by establishing each child's strengths in relation to sports and social interactions.
Our programmes are for those who would like to develop their sports ability in an encouraging environment.
Join us in learning sports the Island Sports way, where fitness and soft skills meet to form a team that works together.
Our Logo & Name
Our company name is inspired by Hong Kongs geographical nature which consists of numerous islands. We wanted to pick a name that was synonymous with our beautiful city.
Our Logo represents athleticism and multi-sports.
We set out to enhance each child's sporting experience and build sporting performance and skills through a variety of different sports.
We do this alongside developing soft skills to build on social abilities from an early age to develop a sporty lifestyle and build confidence and social interactions.
We've always believed in delivering a program which will impact our students in the long run, helping them develop soft skills, sport techniques and a sporty lifestyle. Through research, collaboration and adaptation we continue to improve our program as the sporting community evolves.
Today we deliver our programs to 9 schools across Hong Kong and have a following of 550 clients. We are proud to get involved with charities such as the Child Welfare Scheme and continue to adapt to the sports culture.
WHY IS ISLAND SPORTS DIFFERENT
Founded with the idea of combining soft skills with sports skills, Island Sports HK is the first of it's kind. By maintaining our unique class structure we manage to mentor social behaviour whilst developing athleticism.
We do this to create an encouraging environment where every student has their strengths acknowledged. Students who attend our programs develop athleticism and maturity.
GROWING DEMAND FOR SOFT SKILLS
Looking at Hong Kongs market, we can see there is a growing demand for soft skills in the workplace. Recently becoming more common are other companies applying soft skill modules to their programs to adapt to the current environment.
In 2017 soft skill programs were only available for adults, however, we recognized the demand for soft skills and have since been applying it to our programs. As Jack Ma said, 'Teach soft skills, no knowledge, to compete with machines', 'Only by changing education can our children compete with machines'
EXAMPLE OF ADAPTABILITY
Since founding Island Sports, we have constantly been looking for ways to improve our service. Areas which our partners have valued is our class structure, pop up events, flexibility and our values. Island Sports is fully committed to evolving alongside current sports standards. Our latest project is an age-appropriate fitness test to measure our student's athleticism.
